The city of Mayfield belongs to the state of Kentucky and lies in the Graves County. It serves as the County Seat and looks after official and administrative affairs. It holds a population of 10,024 people and is positioned on a total area of 6.92 square miles of which 0.03 square miles is water.  The area is part of the Jackson Purchase and lies at the center of the eight-county region. Mayfield was established as the county seat in 1821 before the county had been formally organized in 1823.

The city gets its name from the Mayfield Creek. The city began its industrial journey when the completion of the railroad connected it to surrounding places. The city soon became popular for its woolen mills, and by the 1860s, Mayfield had specialized in the clothing manufacturing industry.

The Wooldridge monuments are located in the Maple Wood Cemetery, in Mayfield. It was built for Henry G. Woolbridge, a colonel, to pay respects to loved ones and family members. The site became an interesting place to visit after the colonel’s death in 1899. The Mayfield Graves County Art Guild aims to promote and encourage people to learn about art and visiting them is a perfect way to bring them closer to it.
